The Mosses
The Mosses in and around Bettisfield have changed over the last century; from small-scale peat cutting, to industrial scale cutting and eventually progressing to the current period of restoration. The peatbogs include Fenn’s, Whixall, Bettisfield, Cadney and Wem Mosses, which cover over 2500 acres combined. It took 1000s of years for them to form, beginning as the last glaciers retreated during the ice age.
